One of the world’s largest pipelines is this 800-mile long, 48-inch diameter duct system carrying crude oil and having 11 pumping stations.
It was built by the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company in 1977 to transport crude oil from Prudhoe Bay’s oil fields to a port in Valdez to be loaded onto tankers and shipped to U.S. refiners. The cost to construct the pipeline was $8 billion, making it one of the largest privately-funded construction projects in Alaska.
Moreover, it’s one of the largest pipeline systems in the world, and because much of the ground that it is laid on is frozen sections of the pipeline are either built above ground or buried and insulated.
Set sail onto ocean waters with a scenic day cruise where you can experience the bluer side of Alaska. Rivers are the historic way of traveling in the country, so take the time to explore the heart of Alaska through these watery passageways. Watch for eagles in the trees and wildlife along the shores while the powerful waters help carry you to view the world famous Alaska Pipeline.
The Alaska Pipeline Jet Boat Tour is a 2.5 hour trip.
Rain or Shine we will have a good time. We don’t look at weather reports because as the saying goes in Alaska, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes.” However, rest assured you will be comfortable with our custom heated Cab for the cold and rainy days.
We are asked all the time how to dress. We suggest dressing in layers. While the cab is heated and comfortable it may be cool outside especially if you choose to sit on the back deck. It’s typically cooler on the water and during the land portion of the excursion.
While we cant guarantee to see wildlife on every tour we do see a wide range of animals including bald eagles, alaskan moose, salmon, bears, and plains bison.
